There’s something about golf that just makes conversations flow. I’ll tell you what it is, it’s the most honest game in the world.

Written By David Kearney, Director of Performance at Sigmoid Golf, 5-Star PGA Pro

I have worked in golf in more than 50 countries and made some of my best friends in some of these countries, still in touch today. Now, as my daughter has discovered her love for the game, we get to do it all again together. I’ll carry the bag or drive the car this time, but the connections now are stronger as we will visit some of the clubs I once played, meet some of the people I once played with.

Along with the honesty element, she will also see the ability to make new friends, see new places and perhaps most importantly, experience new feelings you become aware of when you play the game.

The above will happen, should she be open to it, regardless of what standard she achieves, such is the beauty of the game. The ups and downs, highs and lows, joy and despair. All part of golf, all part of life.

Unlike many other sports, golf gives you time. It’s unrushed, deliberate, and social in a way that’s nearly impossible to replicate in any other setting. You’re not sprinting up and down a pitch, you’re not locked into a meeting room with an agenda, and you’re not forced into a small talk over a pint. Instead, you’ve got a few hours, a shared experience, and a common goal – get the ball in the hole, one way or another.

And whether you’re playing with your boss, a potential client, or your fiancée’s dad, you’ll remember them. Not just because of the game itself, but because of the little moments that stick, the celebration after a birdie, the frustration of a missed putt, the banter when someone absolutely shanks one into the water.

Even more than that, patience, resilience, and strategy are the qualities that naturally shine through during a round. You learn a lot about someone by the way they play. Do they take a minute to think through their shot? Do they laugh off a mistake or let it ruin their round? Are they competitive or just here for the fun of it? It’s a glimpse into how they handle challenges, success, and everything in between. And that’s why golf is such a brilliant way to build genuine connections.

I call it the Ultimate Icebreaker.

Where We Come In?

At Sigmoid Golf, we get it. We’re not here to replace the traditional golf course, but we are here to make the game more accessible, more flexible, and easier to fit into people’s lives. One of our core values at Sigmoid Golf is, in fact, connection.

More and more, we’re seeing people look for experiences. People want something active, something social, something that brings them together. That’s exactly what we do.

  • Golf + Coffee + Conversation.  No need to book an afternoon off work for a full round. Pop in for an hour for a round of virtual golf here in Dublin, grab a coffee, hit a few shots, and actually spend time with people in a way that feels natural.
  • It’s A Place to Pause & Connect. Whether you’re an experienced golfer or picking up a club for the first time, Sigmoid is a space where you can play, learn, and enjoy the game together.
  • You Can Learn Together (That’s Where I Come In). If you and your best mate / colleague fancy improving, coaching is built right into the experience. I’ll make sure you walk away having had a good time and leave with a better swing!

So next time you’re planning to catch up with clients, colleagues, or mates, maybe skip the usual pint, and take it to the indoor golf  simulators instead. Who knows? Your next big idea, deal, or partnership might just start with a golf club in your hand, right in front of a TrackMan golf simulator.

Cheers,
David
